Making shabtis is an interesting
process. It involves much dedication and concentration and skill. The first step of this
process is acquiring clay, the next step is to shape the clay into a human form and then
elaborate from that by modelling more detail using your hands or modelling tools. Once
shaped they are left to dry.

This possibly differs from the
ancient method of the Egyptians as they may have used a mould or press as part of the
process. this may have an effect on the outline of the shabtis. The interesting thing about
shabtis is that the Ancient Egyptians theory of having them in their possession in their
tomb, is that it would provide them with servants (which they could be modelled after) for
the afterlife. Rohan B.
