new-07.jpg (5802 bytes)The scenes of our wall were divided into registers. At the top was a kheker frieze, very common for Egyptian tombs in that time. It was very colourful and ran around the entire tomb. Every scene was edged with a block border. It was red, green, yellow and blue. There were three registers and in the right hand corner was possibly a relief of the Western Goddess. The figures in the registers are giving offerings to her.    Felicity

The frieze to Senneferi's tomb produces a border just below the ceiling throughout the tomb. The decoration to the frieze is an immaculately consistent pattern of beautiful colours. the shape comes across as that of possibly a pot or something of that shape. Each shape consists of lines within each other creating a banding effect, like a target would be, consisting of horizontal, vertical, and circular lines. The bottom of the frieze is bordered with two horizontal lines forming a tube shape with vertical lines all painted to form a repetitive pattern. The frieze consists of four colours: mustard yellow, a musky orange-red, a dark blue and a turquoise teal colour. The main body to the frieze is an oval pot shape with a circle below it and eight fanning lines connecting to the top of the bordering vertical lines. Above the oval shape there are four horizontal lines and connecting these lines to the ceiling are another set of eight lines fanning to the ceiling. The frieze is in fact more than mere decoration - it is the hieroglyph for ornament or decorate -hkr be adorned; hkrw - ornament (Gardiner Aa30) Madeleine
